According to Training Industry, as the World Health Organisation has declared Coronavirus (COVID-19) a global pandemic, organisations now have to evaluate the impacts of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak on many elements of their business. This ranges from changes in communication, supply chain management, business travel, as well as classroom based or ‘in-person’ training. Globally, organisations, are now fully aware that they must prioritise online training/eLearning as we progress further into this pandemic, and deal with this outbreak.
Worldwide, businesses continue to cancel face-to-face meetings and classroom-based training sessions. Corporate Learning and Development teams now have the opportunity to take migrating classroom-based training to eLearning platforms into consideration. While employees completing elements of their training, and communications online does take away the immediate strain, they must now step up and ensure there are no ill consequences or ineffective eLearning. From any business who make the decision to migrate to eLearning platforms or learning management systems, they must ensure that quality, performance, and safety is not undermined.
Although the pandemic is happening now and is raw in our minds this can and will apply in the long term; to directly address any global health crises in the future. Online training must be effective in terms of both content and platform, it needs to be a ‘workable solution’ that adapts to the life within a company, meeting their L&D needs for both the employees and the company itself.
Training Industry have stated that organisations globally spend more than €350 billion on corporate training and education each year, but much of it is ineffective.
In order to be part of the solution to allowing businesses to function normally during a global health crisis, eLearning must be effective and provide visible and measureable value or gain. We want to avoid poorly executed and compiled eLearning that can trigger employee disengagement.
